WALT ... estimate the weight of items

As part of the Measurement Strand we are currently working on, Room 6 has been experimenting with a variety of items.  To enable us to form an understanding of weights we took part in a 'stations' activity, where each group was able to spend some time estimating and taking actual measurements.

We had to put something in a box, we had then had to estimate what the weight would be.  (William)
We put the shoe box onto the scales to see if our estimation was right. (Leah).
We had to see how much money it would cost to post, or fast post this parcel nationwide. (Isabelle)

We recorded the original weight of the packaging on a table. (Klem)
We had to scoop sand into a box that we chose and we estimated how many scoops it would take to get the original weight. (Geraldine)
Recorded how much it weighed on the scales (Luke)

The actual weight on the packet was covered up and you had to estimate how heavy the packet was.  Then we weighed it, and then carefully took the tape off to check our estimate and actual weight. (Hannah Mo)

We had to choose grocery items and estmated how heavy they were altogether. (Inara).
Then we wrote onto our table what it actually weighed on the scales (Bryce).

This activity was a little different as we were estimating volume, rather than weight.
In this activity we had to fill up a 1.5l bottle with 100ml glass, but first we had to estmate how many 100ml it would take to fill up the bottle (Seumus).

WALA ... healthy food

As part of our taking action the middle school designed and created a healthy lunch which would help their bodies grow and develop.  These lunches were made in class and then taken to the Esplanade to enjoy.
