WALT ... estimate the weight of items

As part of the Measurement Strand we are currently working on, Room 6 has been experimenting with a variety of items.  To enable us to form an understanding of weights we took part in a 'stations' activity, where each group was able to spend some time estimating and taking actual measurements.

We had to put something in a box, we had then had to estimate what the weight would be.  (William)
We put the shoe box onto the scales to see if our estimation was right. (Leah).
We had to see how much money it would cost to post, or fast post this parcel nationwide. (Isabelle)

We recorded the original weight of the packaging on a table. (Klem)
We had to scoop sand into a box that we chose and we estimated how many scoops it would take to get the original weight. (Geraldine)
Recorded how much it weighed on the scales (Luke)

The actual weight on the packet was covered up and you had to estimate how heavy the packet was.  Then we weighed it, and then carefully took the tape off to check our estimate and actual weight. (Hannah Mo)

We had to choose grocery items and estmated how heavy they were altogether. (Inara).
Then we wrote onto our table what it actually weighed on the scales (Bryce).

This activity was a little different as we were estimating volume, rather than weight.
In this activity we had to fill up a 1.5l bottle with 100ml glass, but first we had to estmate how many 100ml it would take to fill up the bottle (Seumus).

WALA ... healthy food

As part of our taking action the middle school designed and created a healthy lunch which would help their bodies grow and develop.  These lunches were made in class and then taken to the Esplanade to enjoy.

WALT … create alternative endings

The story we are writing an ending for is called
Inside Mega-Munch by Alan Bagnall

"Bbbbzzzz" tazer she's almost out "Bbbbuuuuzzzz" harder and "Kkkkaaaabbbboooommmm" Nana exploded and Toni lived in sham for the rest of his life.
Posted by Rachael

I think if Toni couldn't get Nana out of the tunnel they could just left Nana in the tunnel and not given Nana any food or drinks and then she would get slimmer and then finally they could get Nana out.

WALT … create alternative endings

The story we are writing an ending for is called
Dr Flockter by Jill Eggleton

Docter Flockter could get off the Island by running to the sea, and getting a Boat and driving away in the Boat to a different Island. Or I would run away and jump into the sea and swim my way home.

Term 4 Tuning In

Big Question:  How do food choices impact on your body and health?

WALA ... our first deep undersatnding which is ...
How do food choices help our bodies to develop and grow in a healthy way?

Angela Joblin (a District Health Nurse) came into our class to share her knowledge about the food pyramid.

As part of our tuning in middle team brought along to school one healthy food item and one unhealthy food item to place on our giant food pyramid.

Some students questioned certain items being in the right place … great learning!

What we have learnt about Pentecost

PENTECOST
What happened?
The Holy Spirit filled the disciples and helped them to speak different languages so that they could spread the Good News to the world.
A gust of wind came into the room and tongues of fire sat on their heads.

Who was there?
The Holy Spirit, the disciples, Mary the mother of Jesus and people from all over the world.

Why did it happen?
So the disciples could spread the Good News around the world.  The Holy Sprit was a signal to them that Jesus is always with them.
Jesus said that God would send the Holy Spirit to them.

When did it happen?
Fifty days after Easter

Where did it happen?
It happened upstairs in the same room of a house where they had the last supper.  The house was in Jerusalem.
